The Iron Life Lessons, Audio

Topic: Make Life Simple (5 minutes)

Coach Troy discusses how people gravitate towards complicating things and how simplicity and adhering to the fundamentals is often better for training .... and life in general. Short, sweet and to the point! Listen now at:The Iron Life

TOUGH DAY FOR ATHLETES AT IM WISCONSIN

As many people know, IM Wisconsin was held last week and MAN....was it a BRUTAL day out there! I wasn't there to watch but I followed the race and my athletes on the website, www.ironmanlive.com all day and was noticing the slow times and carnage as people were dnf'ing left and right. In fact, I read somewhere that over 300 people dnf'd (did not finish) with over 200 people missing the bike cutoff time! Apparently, this was the most of any IM North America event. Even the pros posted slow times with the overall winning male breaking the tape at over 9 hours and the winning female crossing at over 10 hours. The dnf'ing pros read like a list of 'whose who' in the long course triathlon race circuit.

The tough terrain combined with temps in the 90's and a stiff wind made for super hard race conditions. I know of some really mentally tough and physically strong athletes who had to reach into their 'suitcase of courage' (i.e. Phil Liggett) to make it to the finish line. Kudos to them!! To everyone who did IM WI and finished...congrats and hats off! To those of you who didn't finish...it's time to get "back on the horse" and get ready to slay the beast in 2006!

Live the Iron Life,
Coach Troy
