High Achiever Profile - Rodger Laurite

NAME: Rodger Laurite

TOWN: Dunwoody, GA

AGE: 37

OCCUPATION: Insurance Broker

WHAT GOT YOU INTO MULTISPORT: I was looking for something different and competitive to keep me in shape. I had been used to playing a lot of basketball and going to the gym. A friend of mine from MBA school told me he had done a triathlon and suggested I try it. So I did. That was back in 2001, I enjoyed it, and have continued to compete.

YEARS OF COMPETING AND BEST (MOST REWARDING) EXPERIENCES:I have been competing for 6 years. My most rewarding experiences were completing my first sprint, then completing my first Olympic a year later, and most recently finishing in the top 10% in my age group in a race a couple years ago.

YOUR MOTIVATION FOR TRAINING AND RACING: I don't really know. I like to stay in shape, and this is a good way of doing it. Having goals and races to prepare for keep me exercising. A lot of it is mental, both training and racing.

HOW YOU BALANCE FAMILY, WORK and TRAINING: For me, it is pretty simple: get up very early in the morning to complete my training so I can spend the rest of the day at work or with the family. Most weekday mornings I get up before 5am, and on weekends by 6am. I have a very supportive wife and kids!

YOUR 3 YEAR ATHLETIC GOALS: I would like to continue competing at a high level, and within the next three years, my main goal is to compete in a half Ironman race.

ADVICE FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR SIMILAR SITUATION: Set goals, but make them realistic. Plan out your schedule ahead of time, and make sure you have the time to train properly. Don't overdo it and let it become an obsession.
