Ilana Katz is originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, and was recruited to the United States to work as a computer consultant. After her many years of computer technical experience, Ilana decided there was more to life than corporate America and followed her personal passion. She graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Nutrition at Georgia State University in December 2001. She enjoys working with athletes of all levels, and specializes in body composition and weight management specific to individual needs. She participates in many endurance and team events herself, in order to relate personally to her clientele. Ilana is in private practice as well as consults to various coaches. She is the founder of the nutrition program Optimal Nutrition for Life. Ilana has worked with many local celebrities and can often be heard on radio in Atlanta.

Nutrition Philosophy
In order to maximize performance and recovery, accomplish optimal energy levels, and maintain ideal body composition, nutrition and physical activity must be closely linked. It is impossible to find success in your sport without a nutrition strategy. Well-conditioned bodies cannot be created by just spending many hours in the gym or playing sport. A nutrition strategy is critical, not only to ensure an optimal flow of energy and fluid into the muscles, but also for improving power, sustaining concentration, optimizing work outs, and maintaining ideal body composition.

Well nourished bodies recover quicker from muscle soreness and derive more benefits from their strenuous, intense and lighter workouts. A failure to consider nutrition as an integral component of everyday routine will increase health risks and result in poor improvement rates. There is a great deal of scientific information on the relationship between good nutrition and physical activity, however, the overwhelming amount of misinformation makes it difficult for one to know how to design an effective nutrition strategy. As a sports nutritionist, I design key nutrition strategies that ensure individual nutrition needs are met and simultaneously provide and sustain optimal energy to compliment individual training needs. The ultimate result is fueling and maintaining elite athlete status in an appropriate and healthy manner.

Ilana, This week is my 52nd week working with you as my dietitian. It doesn't seem that long but time flies when good things happen. With your help and guidance I have lost close to 50 lbs.
