2008 Tucson Training Camp Video: Camp One, Days 5-6 (Oracle Ride, Morning Swim & Gates Pass)
Enjoy various video clips from our 6th Annual Tucson Training Camp, March 7-14, 2008 and days 5-6! Over 30 athletes from all backgrounds and ability levels from throughout the country attended the program. Days 5-6 included a steady 71 mile ride to San Manuel, run training, a 6 am swim workout and another ride over Gates Pass Road and around McCain Loop Road. Our 2008 camps are sponsored in part by Great Harvest Bread.
One of our favorite 'steady state' rides, the 71 miler to and from San Manuel starts at 2500 ft above sea level and climbs steadily to just over 4500 ft. A fast 5 mile descent is followed by rollers to our turn around in San Manuel. The way back includes a challenging 5 mile climb back up into Oracle and then a fast downhill race of over 15 miles into Oro Valley. This ride of anywhere from 3.5 - 5 hours is followed by a short 30 minute run on a scenic trail.
The following morning included a 6am Swim at an outdoor community pool. What a great way to start the morning as you watch the sun rise over the Catalina Mountains and the steam rise up off the 80 degree water! Another ride over Gates Pass and a short run capped off the training day and then a Q&A session with top pro triathlete, TJ Tollakson and a group dinner on an outdoor patio at an upscale mall in 'The Foothills' made for a perfect evening.
