I just wanted to write a quick note to thank you (and Coach Troy) for your
series. Prior to getting Spinervals videos, I had a very hard time
sustaining the motivation to do hard efforts for more than a few minutes on
my trainer. Over the winter my wife bought me "Tough Love" and "Tucson Training Rides".
In the last two weeks I finally worked up to the point where I could do the
complete Mt. Lemmon ride. I had never thought I could maintain an effort at
LT for nearly 90 minutes. It was amazing! I couldn't believe I spent that
much time indoors doing such a hard effort. I don't race much, but I do enjoy getting stronger and more fit. These DVDs
are wonderful. I plan to get the whole "On the Road" series for next
winter, but I really hope you do some more of these outdoor rides. Maybe
even a few locations in Europe?
Best Regards,
Mark Rogers

Coach Troy: You are due recognition for being instrumental in guiding me through my first Ironman. Thanks for being patient and encouraging during these last 20 months of training. It worked. I feel fine and finished strong. Many hundreds of younger, stronger men and women did not finish due. You got me ready and I was successful. Being fit is not enough: nutrition and attitude are critical to get through a long training day. Thanks Coach.

I just purchased the "On The Road" Volume 1 DVD. My wife and I both tried
it and found it to be an excellent DVD. The visual of riding on the road
helps with the usual difficulty in sustaining indoor riding on a trainer.
We liked it so much that I went out to buy volume 2. I love this mode of
the spinervals videos.

Hi Troy,I am a 62 year-old certified personal trainer who can no longer run (as a
result of knee surgery in 1966, I have no cartilage on the medial aspect of
my right knee). I have a history of doing 10Ks and a few triathlons and
have been an active athlete all my life. I have 7 of your DVDs and can't begin to tell you how they have helped me: 1. They motivate: Your technique of training makes me look forward to
working out. Every DVD is different enough that I rotate among them, based
on the amount of time and energy I have. 2. They keep me interested: There is enough variety to each DVD that my
interest level is maintained. Working out on any indoor equipment can be
amazingly boring, but you save the day. Having varied athletes, both male
and female, is also more interesting. I recently bought the Iron Girl DVD
because it looked more interesting and has 3 workouts to fit the mood for my
workout. It's great! 3. They train well: The intensity of your workouts is amazing, varied, fun
and as hard as one likes. You push your featured athletes well, but I
pretend that you are actually pushing me as well! I feel my fitness level
has significantly improved since I've been using you as my coach J 4. Bottom Line: I love your entire approach to biking fitness. You're truly one
of the best things that's happened to me in my pursuit of a healthier
lifestyle and improved cardiovascular and muscular fitness! THANK YOU!!!

Hi Troy:Just thought I would drop you a note to tell you how pleased I was with the (Tucson) camp and the results. I just biked last night on my computrainer and
noticed approximately 15% improvement in my power to weight output from my
training sessions before the camp with approximately the same average heart
rate. I guess that's what happens when you bike a few hundred miles in a
week! I also swam 3,000 yds this morning and had approximately 10 second
improvement in my 100's - consistently throughout three sets of 6x100's. I
am attributing that to the improvement in technique as a result of the
critique by the swim coaches. The camp served as a big motivation for me to really start training and not
miss a session! Thanks again for a terrific camp! Thor Thordarson

Nov. 7, 2007 Dear Troy, There are no adequate words to express my sincere appreciation to you for your outstanding coaching services. I remember when we first met in July of 2005. I told you that I wanted to become an "Ironman". My goal was to finish an Ironman race under 17 hours. You taught me how important it is to invest the time and energy into training properly for and event like this, especially since I was a 47 yr old age grouper. You made it very clear that there were no shortcuts to hard work. In December of 2006 we embarked on an 11 month journey to prepare for the Ironman Florida race in November 2007. Over those many months you told me what to do each and every day. You gradually took me from a man in OK shape to an athlete with excellent endurance. You pushed and stretched me in ways that I never though possible. Your spinerval DVD's were an excellent resource during the cold winter months. Last Friday, the day before IMF you encouraged me to trust in my training, be confident in the hard work that I had done. On Saturday, November 3, 2007 I accomplished a goal of a lifetime. I became and IRONMAN!!! I finished in a time of 13:18. Well over an hour ahead of my goal time. Not once during the entire race did I struggle with any endurance issues. You prepared my perfectly for my first Ironman race. Troy, Thank You from the bottom of my heart for helping me achieve this goal.

Coach Troy,
You don't know me but I feel as if I know you well ("three,
two, one, soft-pedal!). I just want to thank you for helping me out the past
few months. Your no-nonsense approach strikes a chord in me and I have been a
devotee since early June. I practically have the entire library and am pretty
religiously using the discs. I also particularly enjoy the training rides and
am looking forward to the Tuscon rides.

Hi Coach Troy --
Thanks for a great workout! I loved the Lake Placid DVD and I really
like the "virtual ride" format -- you do an excellent job keeping riders focused and engaged (i.e., not bored out of our minds) for ~3 hours on a trainer!...Loved the "punchbuggy" reference...hadn't played that game in a LONG time...I will be "enjoying" the DVD a lot this winter as I just signed up for IMUSA '08. Please keep the DVDs coming...they're fantastic workouts and I have noticed an improvement in my cycling this year after spending some quality Spinervals time on my trainer last winter/spring.
Thanks again!

I just wanted to say thanks for your spinerval series. I started using them in
2006 when training for Ironman Coeur d'Alene and it's paid off. I know by
seeing the results at the Boulder Peak Triathlon. In 2005, I barely averaged 20
mph. In 2006 with 6 months of aerobase builder, my speed was up to 21 mph. This
year I added Time Trial Special and Suffer-O-Rama and increased my speed to 22
mph. I never thought I could go so fast on such a demanding course.

Troy - you are the only coach I completely trust to prepare for racing. You are the #1 Coach with the expertise, knowledge and talent to link the three disciplines in triathlon, implement them to meet and exceed your athletes' specific training and race execution demands, and yet you meticulously plan and monitor for good health, wellness and balance.I am a 2nd year long-course triathlete. I approached you in 2006 with very aggressive race goals. You assessed these goals, objectively compared them to my abilities, capabilities and resources. You developed a systematic plan that is specific and customized to me, the athlete, resulting in achievements higher than what I expected:
2006 Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3
2007 Ford Ironman CA 70.3
2007 Eagleman Ironman 70.3
2007 Ford Ironman Lake Placid
2007 Ford Ironman Louisville
And…
2007 Ford Ironman World Championship
More importantly to racing and training, you address the "whole athlete." You are aware of my demanding schedule, limitations, energy levels (both positive and negative), objectives and goals. My energy, goals and limitations, doubts, fears, and happiness about training and racing all concern you and inspire you -- because you care about your athletes. Thank you. Your consistent, professional, non-interfering approach to coaching gives me THE complete racing developmental program that sharpens my focus for the highest of achievements. Anyone with important goals who wants the leading edge must contact Troy.

"Coach Troy, In 2005 I biked a 7:05 at Ironman Lake Placid. This year(2007)I
biked a 6:00:51. I had to send a note to you to let you know that your 13.0
3 hour Tough Love Spinervals DVD was key to my bike split. It was my regular
Sunday workout all winter long and every rainy day up to Lake Placid. It
taught me how to maintain a sustained and focused effort over the long haul.
Thank you for creating a training tool that really works.

"Troy-It was great to see you on the course and thanks for being out there so long into the evening. Your advice is right on point as I sit here longing form my next Ironman, a few days removed I am definitely addicted and eager to have a new goal in front of me. I'll be back in LP in '09, too difficult on family and work to try for a repeat next year. I loved the race and am already thinking of strategies I would change--faster bike, better downhills and a nutrition lesson on the run. I know I can without question best my time and I look forward to racing LP not just finishing. I just wanted to thank you for a great camp that was humbling but gave me the lessons I needed for success on race day. I would tell anyone doing their first Ironman, particularly Lake Placid, to head to your camp. You and your team were critical to my finishing. I'll continue to add to my spinerval library which I live by in the off-season and you'll likely see me at another camp. Thanks for all of your help."

"Troy,
Even though I'm on the sidelines watching my wife for this Louisville event,
I've gotta say that the investment in your camp was a solid value for both of
us from the spectator and participant standpoint. Michele's perspective on the
course and how to handle each phase of the race were certainly enhanced by you
and your coaches.
Thanks again to you and your coaches. You guys all did a magnificent job.

"Coach Troy's Tucson Training camp is great, allowing me to focus on training without interruption. It offers the dedicated athlete an exceptional start to the season as we get the base miles in on the road. The logistics and schedule were outstanding with a variety of terrain (read challenges) and distances. The camaraderie of the group really helps hone one's timing, pacing, equipment selection and tactics. The support of the coaches answering any questions and insuring the experience was safe and complete made this a priceless experience. I look forward to attending camp again next year!"

"As a long-time runner and fitness enthusiast, but new to the world of cycling, I appreciated the attention and expertise provided at the recent Tucson Training Camp. Coach Troy was an incredible source of knowledge and motivation, giving newcomers to the sport as much attention as provided to the more experienced athletes. The camp was a fantastic learning and training experience, as well as being a great deal of fun. I came away with a renewed sense of training purpose and motivation, in addition to making a number of wonderful friendships. I look forward to attending again next year, and would encourage anyone interested in cycling or multi-sport to attend one of Coach Troy's camps!"

"This was my third year at Coach Troy's Tucson Training camp and I'm finding with each year there's more reasons to return. Aside from the joys of escaping New England in March and training hard in beautiful warm Tucson, it's really becoming all about the people connection for me. The support, lectures and training from Coach Troy and his coaches is invaluable. The friendships you'll form with all of them as well as with your fellow campers goes beyond making you a better athlete. It's a beautiful sport and a great lifestyle and I'm very grateful to be part of it."

"My stats: 55 yr old male, 6'1" tall; living at 5,800 ft in western Colorado. Average year - 2,500 to 3,000 miles brisk recreational riding. I try to average 18 to 20 mph for a 1 1/2 to 2 hour typical ride. My typical winter and spring: Balloon up to 200+ pounds; eat well - though not a healthy diet; Ride outside whenever the roads are clear of snow and the temperature rises over 40; Grumble about my muscles never really warming up -- I like 85 to 95 degrees; ride on my rollers whenever my wife threatens to go spend the rest of the winter with her mother if I don't get some exercise. When spring arrives; ride like a slug; work to drop my excess baggage; wear baggy jerseys. This winter: Purchase a Trek Cycle-Ops magneto trainer and had Uncle Al of Cascade Bicycles and roadbikerider.com fame, order 1.0 No Slackers Allowed at the suggestion of my son. Work like a dog and enjoy my muscles being warm; go back to Al and order 2.0, 7.0 and 8.0.; notice my waistband is getting looser, my pants legs are getting tighter and my wife seems to like me better; order 19.0,22.0 and 24.0: exercise to 19.0-Bending Crank Arms; struggle to get up stairs for 2 days; order Ride Strong for my wife. This week:
Sunday -- The Uphill Grind adding and additional 5 minute hill set; heart rate drops from its max of 190 to 135 during the recovery minute at the end of the last hill.
Monday -- off
Tuesday -- Hillacious; strong throughout; hate doing the rolling hill set.
Wednesday -- Time Trialpalooza; was planning on going easy but the legs felt great and was able to build on each set and keep my heart rate under control - ended the last minute at 53/12 and 75 rpm with a heart rate 30 beats under my max and was still able to get up the stairs.
Thursday -- Recovery and Technique; can't believe my legs feel this good after beating them up this week; gotta write a letter. In all seriousness I want to thank you guys for a great product. I am heading into spring more fit, stronger and at a trim 185 lbs. The couple of times I have been able to get out on the road it felt like I was riding with someone else's legs. No riding like a slug this spring. I'm even planning on competing in a couple of time trials this year to keep my motivational level up."

"I'm a success story that I wanted to let you know about. In October I started a program to improve my cycling. Over the course of the winter I purchased all of your Spinervals DVD?s and four of your conditioning DVDs. I now own all of them except Strendurance. I exercised five or six days each week, doing the two-hour video every Sunday and taking Monday off. I wanted you to know about the effect this workout regimen has had. For comparison, I made my last 44-mile hill course ride in October. Today I repeated that ride and achieved some astonishing results. (I track all my training rides on an Excel spreadsheet.)
- My average speed increased over 2 mph (15.3 to 17.5)!
-
My average cadence increased (73 to 79 rpm).
-
My weight decreased (152 to 146 lbs). My average heart rate decreased (138 to 133 bpm) (HRM=179 bpm, age 44).
-
I rarely used my small chainring, even on the larger hills.
-
My climbing out of the saddle was MUCH easier and more efficient.
-
Despite losing weight, I have increased my upper body strength. I now wear a medium cycling jersey, up from a small in the fall.
-
My waist size has decreased two inches (32 to 30 inches).
-
My body fat decreased (13% to 9%).
Overall, I am now a much stronger and more efficient rider than I was just five months ago, thanks to your DVD series. I simply rotated through them all every four weeks. My new goals (to be completed by the fall) include:
- Buy the Strendurance DVD (the only DVD missing from my set).
-
Get a Coach Troy Spinervals cycling jersey so that I can advertise Spinervals to everybody in my cycling club (Harrisburg Bicycle Club).
-
Get into your next DVD training class (I am attaching my resume and photo to beat the rush for the next casting call!).
-
Come down to your testing lab to find out my VO2 max, target heart rate, etc.
-
Attend a cycling clinic at one of your sites.
Thanks to you, cycling is more enjoyable. I tell all my bike repair clients about your products. While you kicked my butt on my CycleOps trainer all winter long, it has been very well worth it. Keep up the good work, and thanks for all you do."

"I just want to say that I have been a home video exerciser for about 20 years. YIKES!! I have all the series from t.v. & others you find only on line. I would just like to say out of everthing out ther, there is nothing like Spinervals! Every workout I have, Sufferama, Ride & Stride, Big Gear Strength, Zoot Challenge & my new all time Fav Ultra Conditioning Leg Strength. They all Rock. Coach Troy is the best motivator out there. He should really be proud of himself! I feel like a triathlete myself every time I complete a Spinervals workout. Keep up the fantastic workouts. Thanks."

"You asked me to let you know how I did in my first ever Powerman Event down in Alabama. I did pretty good I think. I did the Event in roughly 3 hours. I was figuring it would take more than that but thanks to your DVD's I used over the winter, (even with me needing to do better on the cycle) I would of never been able to do as well. During the event I could hear you telling me to increase my cadence and ride strong as you do on the DVD. I cannot thank you enough. I wanted to let you know that I did finish and I am thankful my wife got me your DVD's for Christmas. Lance's coach hasn't got anything on you! Thanks again Troy."

"I have never considered myself an athletic person, but last year decided I wanted to do an Ironman (after doing a couple of sprints and getting hooked on tris). I hired Troy as my coach and my goal was Ironman Florida 2005. I didn't know what to expect with regards to the training, but I had confidence in Troy from the very beginning. By the time I was into the heavy training volumes, I was almost surprised by my reaction to seeing those weekend workouts. Those 100-mile rides were certainly hard, but by that time, I didn't doubt that I could do them, thanks to how well Troys training had prepared me. I also felt like Troy had complete confidence in the fact that I would finish IMFL, even when I was battling an IT band injury, and his confidence really helped me believe that I would succeed. Thank you so much, Troy, for helping me achieve my goal of becoming an Ironman!"

"Having never participated in any organized sport, I had no idea what to expect in my first year of training. Troy's experience with professional athletes and seasoned veterans, both of which I was not, made me wonder if I'd bitten off more than I could chew. Needless to say, I entered this a little intimidated. Those feelings were quickly put to rest. His acceptance of me as an athlete was true and honest and his confidence in my abilities never faltered. It's clear that Troy has a great ability to work with many different personalities, capabilities and ages and bring the very best out in them all. Thanks Troy for welcoming me into this sport and allowing me to achieve things I'd never dreamed of."

"I came from more of an aerobic class background with some cycling and running for variety. I started out doing a couple sprint distance duathlons when I decided I needed to break out my comfort zone and try something completely crazy. Ironman Triathlon. I knew absolutely nothing about how to train for such a huge event but had the sense to know I couldnt do this on my own. I hired Coach Troy to get me from no idea to the finish line at the Florida Ironman in November 2005. My time training with Coach Troy was incredibly challenging but manageable and in the process I learned so much about how to train for a long distance event. On race day I stood on the beach in Panama City Florida terrified but confident that with the training I received from Coach Troy, I was going to finish an event that so many people would never even dream of doing. In 13 hours 55 minutes and 37 seconds I finished, met my goal and became and Ironman!!! I could not have done it without Coach Troy. Thank you."

"I just completed IMFL for my 1st IM and wanted to send a note of thanks for your help via your IronFocus CD! The mantra of "Gut Check Time" kept ringing in my head as I ran that last 10k. All in all your CD was one of the primary reasons I was able to finish in the top 30% of both overall and my age group (M40-44). I figure that was pretty good for a "non-athlete" who ran (the whole thing, btw) his first marathon as the last leg of his first IM!! "I just wanted to express my thanks for another excellent workout. I just received my copy of Swimervals 1.0 \226 Freestyle Mania, and it was one of the most challenging workouts that I have had on my Vasa Trainer. Though the DVD highlights the Vasa Ergometer, I was able to get an equally effective workout on my Vasa Trainer Pro. With my Vasa Trainer at a height of Level 2, holding a position half way up the beam, and interchanging between the red and blue Power Cords, I was able to maintain the proper intensity during the intervals while maintaining good form. Prior to the release of Swimervals, my swim workouts on my Vasa Trainer closely paralleled those which I would use in the pool. I have been a big fan and regular user of the Spinervals workouts since 1997, beginning with "No Slackers Allowed", my collection has since steadily grown with each new release. I look forward to future Swimervals workouts to be added to the series, hopefully with the original Vasa Trainer added to the mix."

"I wanted to thank you again for convincing me that through a structured training plan and a positive attitude, great results can be achieved. Since 1998 when you started coaching me for the Hawaiian Ironman, I have seen a steady improvement in my race performances. My race performance was never as spectacular than my finishing time at Ironman Canada 2005 where I improved my best time by over 40 minutes to finish in the top 150 (10:39:37). After some initial concerns that my training volume was not consistent with Ironman races in the past, you assured me that age and experience goes a long a way in these races and that my training would be the basis for a successful day. You said some things before Ironman Canada that stuck with me race day. You told me 1) to be confident in my fitness throughout the day, 2) when things get tough, dig deep and race with pride, 3) cross that finish line knowing you gave it your all and most important 4) try to enjoy yourself out there; this is a great time of your life! Indeed it was and is."

"How do you train for a triathlon and the toughest mountain in the world when it is 20 degrees F? A few months ago I decided to enter the London Triathlon and ride Alp D'Huez. Trouble was it was heading into winter in Canberra Australia where the temperature at dawn is typically around 20 degrees F. The solution? I used the No Slackers Allowed, Time Trial Special, Uphill Grind and Recovery / Technique DVD's on my home trainer 4 times a week allowing me to do virtually all my training indoors. The result? I managed to break the hour for Alp D'Huez and a 65 minute 40km in the triathlon. Spinervals are fantastic and the ONLY solution for winter training.
Keep 'em coming!"

"Over the past six years I have used Coach Troy and Triathlon Academy as my Triathlon Coach. I raced for 5 years before hiring Coach Troy and then decided I wanted to take my racing to the next level - my level. Over the course of the next 6-years I raced at a level that I never thought I would be able to. I had multiple top 5 finishes and far exceeded my expectations. I am a father of two children (13 & 11); coach all their sports and run my own business with extensive travel domestic and over seas. Coach Troy helped me develop a program that would allow me to train more efficiently. Without a lot of extra time, he helped me maximize the results from my training. It was also fantastic that I did not have to think about putting my training program together. I received his training blocks and I new what I had to do and I did it. I went on to race 4 Ironman races and raced to a PR in each race. Finally, the experience that I have had with Coach Troy has resulted in my having another friend in this great sport of Triathlon. I would strongly recommend Coach Troy 's services. He truly cares about not only your results, but the experience you have in the sport."

"Since the mid 90s somewhere I have done Coach Troy's first workout, CycleRobix, at least 150 times (with a seven year vacation to become a weight lifter, now back on the bike). I am now collecting his Spinervals DVDs, and today, for the first time, did Spinervals 19.0. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE WORKOUT! Unbelievable! I've done the Time Trial workout, Spinervals 1.0, etc., but nothing compares to those iso-squats! Excellent! Tell Coach Troy I hear his voice in my mind every time I'm on the bike, even when I'm out in the middle of nowhere, saying things like "100 meters, 50 meters, you're cresting, drop down to your 18 and spin, SPIN, SPIN!!!! High cadence! Up above 120!" And I have the original CycleRobix music burned, permanently, into my brain. Or, "Heart rate 175! " It's horrible! But seriously, my recovery of my aerobic fitness is due in great part to his work, and I am very grateful."

I completed the race 1hr before the cutoff and felt pretty good at the end. Next year, I will train in the same way but with some of the more challenging Spinervals and Runervals. Thanks again."

"When I started my 12-month journey to become an Ironman I spent the first 3 months wondering through a directionless plan of workouts. After realizing I had no real plan to get me to the starting line of Ironman Lake Placid I sought the help of Coach Troy. Troy took the time to get an understanding of my athletic background, triathlon experience, and overall willingness to do the work required to complete an Ironman. It wasnt long before I was on track with a confident and proven program that showed results
